To dominate and control that region. Iran and Pakistan in fact.
Buy buying up big infrastructure there.
They also have a big plan for Iran.
The Chinese also fully intend to 'monitor' (do surveillance) from the Gwadar Container Port in Pakistan. On all the shipping traffic through The Strait of Hormuz.
And this is NOT good. For global economic freedom.
In the past decade the Chinese have aqquired control (stakes) in 13 major European Shipping Ports. They run/control them. Not Europe
But the astonishing total.. of what they now own, operate and constructed themselves, is a whopping 42 Ports.
