That's crazy. People get really silly sometimes in a crisis.
But they didn't get crazy like this in WW2. Until there were no supplies of anything. And they were literally starving.
Even though they had years of it leading up to 'no supplies' in many areas. ...with general rationing. And things starting to not be available because importation was starting to be so affected.
By U boats and air attack on ships.
How would have modern people coped with the conditions people endured during WW2 in Europe?
Fact is they wouldn't have had coped.
Australia was rationed heavily through WW2 too. And just like the UK. And most of Europe. The UK continued to endure rationing. For years after WW2 officially ended.
I guess. Most people do not know. But the meagre rationing of food and general rationing was far stricter after the WW2. For years.
And. More limited in some ways.
Rationing of food and many things did not end in the UK until 1954.
And is quite something if you consider WW2 ended in 1945.
I believe rationing ended around the same year in Australia. Mid 50's. My mum told me all about it.
People couldn't get tyres for their cars again. Much sugar. Certain foods. Materials to build new houses. To repair destroyed houses. Petrol. Long lists of things.
Butter, groceries etc.
Food imports. Was a particular problem in the UK too. And financial resources to governments were not available after the WW2... to expand food production. That was heavily destroyed everywhere during the war.
The French resistance even blew up alot of trye factories during WW2. They had to. Because it stopped the Nazis getting tyres for military vehicles and aircraft etc.
And slowed the roll of the Germans military capability.
This Post War rationing was made worse by alot of strikes continually by Dock workers in post War UK.
So here are people today, squabbling and fighting over rolls of toilet paper.
One single item.
WW2 people used newspaper as toilet paper. Even before the War in some cases.
Chick’sOpinion is right.
I grew up poor so I know how to use notebook paper as TP. You have to ball it up, unfold it, rub it against an edge and repeat until it is soft enough to use. I also know to use old clothes for TP. Gotta throw that away though. Don’t wash it & reuse it. We used to blow our noses in old t-shirts.
If my dad were still living I would ask him about WW2 and such. He was born a couple of years before the Great Depression.

Over the centuries, societies have shown a long history of making the effects of epidemics worse and furthering their own destruction.

Yeah. Totally agree. People who grow up poor know how to make do.
Including when you run outa toilet paper.
Cannot believe the supermarket battles that people are carrying on with.
It's very mean spirited.
I agree, this is sad.
When we buy things we don’t need we are stealing from the people who do need it.
