‘Up the spout’ is an old expression for being pregnant.
I guess it comes from the fact a tap has a spout where the water comes out.
It’s used to get used in the same way Americans say ‘knocked up’
In my family we use the English expression for it ‘up the duff’
Or the one everybody knows, ‘a bun in the oven’
I swear people in the old days were not allowed to say the word pregnant.
Like it was a taboo word.
I didn’t know up the duff meant pregnant.
