EXCERPT
The 8-1 decision could open the floodgates for federal cash to the insurance industry. Insurers who accused the government of a “bait and switch” claimed they’re owed $12 billion from the Affordable Care Act program.
[...]
The case concerned a temporary fund in the health care law intended as a buffer for health plans who had sicker customers than expected in the newly overhauled insurance marketplaces. Obamacare’s drafters hoped the program would be funded by industry, but health plans quickly racked up losses when the marketplaces opened in 2014. The next year, Republican lawmakers approved the first in a series of annual appropriations riders barring HHS from using taxpayer dollars to bankroll the program, known as risk corridors.
The high court agreed with insurers that the congressional spending restrictions didn’t release the government from its original promise to fund the Obamacare program. The court said Congress had created "a rare money-mandating obligation" that later appropriations language couldn't repeal.
"These holdings reflect a principle as old as the Nation itself: The Government should honor its obligations," wrote Justice Sonia Sotomayor in the majority opinion.
Justice Samuel Alito, in a dissenting opinion, criticized the ruling as effectively providing a massive bailout for the insurance industry.

It never ceases to astound me.
I'm going for a scan this week.
It's free.
It's what we call in Australia 'bulk billed'.
Typically the medical imaging place just bills the Australian government at some stage during the year. For the public's visits.
My visit.
This is how it should be for Americans.
Money doesn't come into it for our health here much.
Or rarely.
If you are unemployed, sick, are a Vet, are on welfare and have small children or are elderly, the free aspect of Australia gets even more free.
Though I'm outraged that they started billing working Australians for an ambulance transport.
And I'm gonna write to my local MP and complain about it.
It's wrong.
Because the small levy in Australian's pays .....pay for it every year. Already. That covers the majority of health care.
So why did the Australian government start billing us for that?
It's strange.
Perhaps it was introduced to stop Australians calling the ambulances out as a free service for small things.
Or cause they can't be bothered getting the bus or taxi to the hospital.
If it's them. It must be people on some kind of welfare.
You don't get billed for the ambulance if you are unemployed, are on welfare with small children , elderly, or are a vet etc.
There are certain people in Australia who would love to privatise health care in Australia.
It will never happen.
But back to the U.S. It just seems like a huge mess.
That's needs sorting out.
Psychics are predicting it will be.
But I wonder what model the U.S are gonna use.
There's plenty of models of free healthcare to copy in the Western world.
That have been operating perfectly well ....most since WW2.
It’s a mess. The “free” healthcare that some of the poor, some of the elderly, & some veterans get is atrocious.
If we don’t pay out of pocket then we pay in lack of coverage and/or substandard care.
Money talks in America. So THEY have no incentive to provide “free” quality healthcare.
It’s more permanent
Peoole being tortured in prison.
The Romans did it too.
But generally it was often used on people deemed heretics or accused of blasphemy.
Or told lies.
I believe suspected witches suffered this as well.
I feel ill health will finally silence Trump.
It's gonna take alot to silence him.
He's had so much attention since young.
He was a much sought after man by women when he was young.
He had it all. Good looks, money.
But unfortunately not too bright.
It was never an issue, when he just stuck to high end real estate.
