Marilyn Monroe had a Will when she died. But as we know she had no relationship with her father. And her mother spent most of her adult life in mental institutions. Marilyn Monroe grew up mainly in either orphanages or with foster carers.
She did provide a Trust in her will to care for her mother until her mother died.
But she left money to her half sister. A bequest to a poet and his wife. Also a bequest to her psychoanalyst, Marianne Kris.
When Marianne Kris died, her portion of Monroe's estate transferred to the Anna Freud Centre in London. Which is good because they help kids with mental health issues.
But unfortunately the largest section of Monroe's estate went to Lee Strasberg. The American Drama guru guy teacher of Method Acting.
So he and his wife Paula inherited the bulk of the Marilyn Monroe estate.
But Paula, Lee Strasberg's wife died in 1966 a few years after Marilyn died.
They had 2 children, Susan Srasberg and John Strasberg.
However, Lee Strasberg re-married. To Anna Strasberg. Producing 2 more kids.
So Anna Strasberg, who only met Marilyn Monroe once, inherited most of the Monroe Estate. When Lee Strasberg died in 1982.
And. Anna Strasberg hired CMG Worldwide, to license all Marilyn Monroe Products immediately.
And made millions from doing so. She filed a multi million lawsuit and won publicity rights to Marilyn's image.
It gets worse.
In Marilyn's Will. She specified her personal effects and clothing should go to friends. And colleagues.
Anna Strasberg commissioned Christies Auctioneers to auction them. All of them. All Marilyn's personal effects. And kept the money for herself.
That's how Mariah Carey paid 1 million for Marilyn Monroe's mother's baby Grand Piano at auction.
Anna Strasberg also sued Marlyn's former agent, Inez Melson for some of Marilyn's possessions. And sold them for 13 million. For herself.
Years later, Anna Strasberg sold what remained of her interest in Monroe's estate.
She sold it to Authentic Brands Group. For an estimate of either 20 million or 30 million.
So my suggestion is. If you want to buy a product with Marilyn Monroe's face on it.
Don't.
Because Anna Strasberg and her kid's made more money out of Marilyn Monroe than Marilyn Monroe made for all her work in her lifetime.
I personally have issues, about strangers makin money out of dead people. It's ethically wrong.
And unjust. Yeah the universe probably chose it that way for Anna Srasberg. But she made wrong choices for Marilyn's real friends. And huge costly legal problems for them too.
And you know, people need to make more complex Will's if they re-marry. Lee Strasberg didn't.
And that's how Anna Strasberg got her hands on Marilyn's estate completely.
Marilyn Monroe failed to control her estate. By doing her Will wrong. Or had poor advice.
For a start as we know, she didn't intend for Anna Strasberg to inherit a life time of unimaginable wealth from her. Not at all.
So I researched it. And this is what Legal experts claim went wrong with Marilyn Monroe's Will.
Rather than leave her estate outright to the man, Lee Strasberg, Marilyn Monroe could have left her entire estate in Trust for the benefit of Lee Strasberg, during his lifetime.
After his passing, the balance of the estate could have gone to individuals or charities of Monroe's choosing'.
'We often see this unintended inheritance in 2nd marriages. Where a surviving spouse inherits the estate and then directs it to their own children or family.
The result is that the estate, often including family heirlooms, ends up in the hands of people that the deceased never intended to receive them'.
Hmmmm. I think this issue is more relavent today. Because people rarely stay married to the same person for life today.
