Great news!
It’s roughly in the centre of Australia.
And that’s the reason I’ve never been there.
Too far.
I live on the east coast.
A few days away drive from it.
People don’t realise, Australia is a huge continent.
My mum had been to it.... Uluru.
It’s a sacred site.
And the aboriginals quite rightly control access to it.
They had to stop tourists going there for a while.
Because the younger visitors were taking off their clothes. And doing nude pics on it.
For ‘amazing’ selfies.
Highly disrespectful.
I’m glad the aboriginal community up there shut down access.
Uluru is the famous location where a dingo (native dog) took someone’s baby from their tent.
Never to be seen again.
And the parents were unjustly jailed over it.
Much later released.
Hello Hungary.
Omg. Read all about the 1944 Siege Of Budapest a while back. What a nightmare for the people of Budapest at that time.
And the destruction.
Leading up to the Siege was bad enough.
From what I know, roughly 38,000 civilians died in that. From starvation. And the combined military action of the Russians, the Germans and the Romanians.
The surrender by the Germans didn't even come till 1945.
If anyone wants to read a first hand account of it. Then read the famous book, I Am Fifteen And Don't Want To Die by Christine Arnothy.
She survived it.
I always avoided that book because of it's title. Finally read it when I discovered it was a true story of amazing survival.
And a bit of a 20th Century history of Hungary too.
Couldn't put the book down.
People talk about disasters today. Which to me are often small scale. Compared with the Siege Of Budapest.
And yet, the average person today knows nothing of that event. Which changed Hungary forever.
And it's people.
How do people not know Australia is huge? It’s a continent!
Chick's Opinion - I haven't been to Uluru either. Hopefully I'll go there some day.
Yes. What's wrong with us? Not having ever been to Uluru.
I guess we're not grey nomads.
They are always heading out there.
The other thing is. It's in the Northern Territory. And most Australians don't choose that area as a holiday destination. Tourists do.
Uluru is 450 kilometres from the nearest large town.
Dad probably went there.
He was always going out to the desert areas in his VW Kombi.
I'm very glad the aboriginal people there control tourism in the area. In that National Park.
From my reading they are the Anangu people.
I realised when I was in the UK. That alot of people didn't know how big Australia was.
It's like the U.S.
If family moves to a different State. That's it.
You are lucky to see them once a year.
After that.
Choc I didn’t realise you were in Oz!
Kristy that’s such wonderful news ♥️
You know, people think the US is small too.
