The US government were rumoured to be working on a hypersonic jet for decades. Obviously they hadn't fully cracked the technology since the B52 bombers will remain in service until the fifties! Most of the UFOS were highly classified government projects, some natural phenomena and the rest extra-dimensional. I use that word because it is more likely such entities are from our own solar system and not elsewhere.
