  "BIT OF A TOME THIS ONE!!!" AS TIME PASSES BY? No… We Pass Through It There is an old expression we humans use with enormous confidence: “As time passes by…” No. I don’t think it does. I think we’ve got it completely backwards. Time doesn’t Pass us by. We Pass through Time. There is a difference. Perhaps it’s an enormous one. We speak about Time as though it were some enormous celestial train hurtling past the platform while we stand still waving our handkerchiefs. Time marches on. Time flies. Time waits for no man. Time heals. Time catches up with us. Time runs out. Time passes. Poor, Old Time. We’ve given it an astonishing number of responsibilities for something that may not actually be doing anything at all. Perhaps Time is simply THERE. Perhaps WE  are the things moving. Imagine, for a moment, that Time isn’t a River. Imagine it is a BOOK. Not an ordinary book. There would be no cover. No title page.
