Because she really did grow up a poor little rich girl. Unwanted. And kind of alone.
As many will know, she was American Heiress, Gloria Vanderbilt. And she lost her father when she was I think a baby. Very young anyway.
Her mother was only 20 when she was widowed. But Gloria, the 18 month old baby, instantly inherited a half share of the total 5 million of her father's money.
However, Gloria's mother was in a difficult situation. In those days, at 20, a woman was not allowed to manage a great amount of money.
So she applied to the courts to get a huge sum paid to her annually. To care for her baby daughter, Gloria Vanderbilt.
But she didn't use the huge annual sum to care for baby Gloria.
Instead she gave Gloria to a series of nannies. And the grandmother.
And spent the rest of her life going to parties all over Europe. Shagging the Prince Of Wales too it's believed.
Despite her mother being out of her life, Gloria Vanderbilt was exposed to alot of the sleaze her mother engaged in.
The neglect was so bad. Gloria's Aunt applied to remove her into her custody.
Whether she did this to get her hand's on baby Gloria's money I don't know.
But it was a huge story in the early 1930's. A scandal.
But the Aunt won custody.
Gloria Vanderbilt's life did get better. As she was involved in many artistic things. Heavily involved with Hollywood.
In fact...The U.S owes alot to her contribution to the Arts I think.
And she was an early successful entrepreneur.
People would not remember today but in the 1970's she invented Designer Jeans.
And they were called Vanderbilt Jeans.
As many will know, she also marketed her own Perfume. Vanderbilt.
And made a huge amount of money from these ventures.
The most interesting thing about Gloria Vanderbilt to me. Is also who she dated. A who's who of the era.
As she was an extremely beautiful and an heiress. She was popular.
She dated Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Ray Milland, Errol Flynn, millionaire Howard Hughes. An old famous composer. And at 17 she married she married famous Hollywood agent, Pat DiCicco.
She then married director, Sidney Lumet.
Then writer, Wyatt Cooper. Anderson Cooper's dad.
It appears Anderson Cooper has named his child after his dad. Who died young.
Though Wyatt is a popular name these days I guess.
It's no surprise to me Anderson Cooper is on TV. His mother was heavily involved in TV production in the 1960's. She also wrote a book on her life. It's called,
Once Upon A Time:A True Story.
It would be a very American story.
But really Gloria Vanderbilt was a very international American. Culture was her middle name in a way.
I’m gonna say it. I know a surrogate carried & birthed the baby. But I hope Anderson tried to inseminate the old fashioned way. That way he will know. I won’t say the rest.
