As for Diana, I agree she was no saint either.
However, it's utter nonsense to suggest she was a narcissist and full of hate and wanted to overthrow the crown. The truth of the matter is Diana revitalized the British monarchy.
She worked tirelessly for the crown. the Princess was president or patron of over 100 charities. The Princess did much to publicise work on behalf of the homeless and also disabled people and children, let's not forget her charitable work with people suffering from ith HIV/Aids.
Diana was also a pioneer in charity work focused on ending the use of landmines around the world. A few months after Diana's death, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, in part for the work that Diana did to end this inhumane use of these weapons.
It is also a known fact that she was conned into giving the BBC interview, however, Charles wasn’t conned, he wasn’t conned at all when he gave his interview and in giving his interview he confirmed that everything that was said was true.
Diana deserves respect, not ridicule or slander she is to be admired. I truly believe she was groomed from birth to marry Charles, that she was ‘chosen’. She was unsupported, unloved, ridiculed and slandered and still she shone, warts and all, she shone.
Theirs is not a Mills and Boons romance.
One wonders if Camilla’s own husband Andrew Parker Bowles not had numerous extramarital affairs throughout his marriage to Camilla, including with several of Camilla's friends if she would have entertained Charles at all. Also, one wonders if Charles was not a high-ranking royal if she would have looked twice at him.
Incidentally, there was no marriage proposal from Charles pre-Diana to Camilla, its well documented in numerous biographies that during their brief affair in the early 70’s– it lasted only 6 months - Charles failed to propose, but I honestly don’t think she would have taken him up on it because during this time Camilla was madly in love with her future husband Andrew Parker Bowles. Some speculate that she only dated Charles to get back at her former boyfriend Andrew, who, and it’s another tangled web, was dating Princess Anne at the time. (Many have actually stated that Andrew Parker Bowles was the love of Annes life, Anne as we know went onto marry Captain Mark Phillips, with some claiming that relationship was a rebound. )
There are also discrepancies regarding when the couple first met, some say in 1970 at a polo match, and others it was years later in 1972 at a party.
Charles was most certainly not honest with Diana, he was anything but honest with her, and the truly flippant comment ‘whatever love means’ came from an engagement interview and visibly wounded and alarmed Diana. If you watch the interview you see her reaction on her face.
Both Charles and Camilla behaved abhorrently and were utterly atrocious to Diana, it is well documented they both made Diana's life a living hell.
